Mechanism of Action
Alpha Arbutin
Alpha arbutin (4-hydroxyphenyl-alpha-D-glucopyranoside) is a glycosylated hydroquinone with glucose bound to the para position. Alpha-glucosidase and other glycosidases slowly hydrolyze the bond, releasing hydroquinone in controlled low concentrations—avoiding peak levels that cause irritation and ochronosis. Released hydroquinone inhibits tyrosinase by competing with tyrosine and through copper chelation at the catalytic center, reducing L-DOPA to dopaquinone conversion. The alpha anomer provides greater stability and skin penetration than beta arbutin. May also inhibit melanosome maturation. Gradual release creates sustained low-dose tyrosinase inhibition that brightens over 8-12 weeks with minimal side effects.
Rosehip Seed Oil
Natural trans-retinoic acid content (0.01-0.04%) binds RAR receptors in keratinocytes and fibroblasts, promoting cell turnover, collagen type I synthesis, and keratinocyte differentiation at gentle level without retinization. Linoleic acid (44%) supports barrier repair through ceramide synthesis, balances sebum composition (acne-prone skin often deficient). Alpha-linolenic acid (33%) converts to anti-inflammatory metabolites, supports barrier function. Beta-carotene and lycopene provide antioxidant protection and mild photoprotection. Unique combination among plant oils: natural retinoid plus essential fatty acids plus antioxidants — no other oil provides all three. Contains tocopherols. Quickly absorbed.
