Quick Comparison

Copper Peptides (GHK-Cu)Snail Mucin
Typical ConcentrationConcentrations: 0.1-1% in skincare products. Apply once or twice daily. Do NOT use with strong acids (vitamin C at low pH, AHAs) — copper can catalyze free radical formation with ascorbic acid. Best used as a standalone PM treatment or mixed with peptide serums.Concentrations: 70-97% snail secretion filtrate in dedicated products. Apply after cleansing and toning, before heavier products. Safe for morning and night use. Results improve with consistent daily use over 4-8 weeks.
ApplicationTopical (serum, cream). Blue/copper-colored products. Do not combine with low-pH vitamin C.Topical (essence, serum, cream, mask). Apply to clean, damp skin. Pat gently to absorb.

Mechanism of Action

Copper Peptides (GHK-Cu)

GHK-Cu activates wound repair genes through copper-dependent transcription factor modulation. It stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen types I, III, and V via COL1A1, COL3A1, COL5A1 upregulation, plus elastin, decorin, and glycosaminoglycans. Copper serves as cofactor for lysyl oxidase (collagen cross-linking). It attracts macrophages and mast cells releasing PDGF, TGF-beta, FGF. Promotes angiogenesis via VEGF. Uniquely activates MMP-2 and MMP-9 to break down damaged collagen and scar tissue — supporting healthy remodeling. Balanced anabolic-catabolic activity explains efficacy in anti-aging and scar revision. Avoid with vitamin C: copper catalyzes Fenton reactions oxidizing ascorbic acid.

Snail Mucin

Snail secretion filtrate (Cryptomphalus aspersa) is a complex mixture of bioactive compounds. Hyaluronic acid (multiple molecular weights) provides humectant hydration by binding water in the stratum corneum and dermis. Glycoproteins and proteoglycans contain growth factors and enzymes that accelerate wound healing, promote fibroblast and keratinocyte proliferation, and support extracellular matrix remodeling. Copper peptides (e.g., GHK-Cu) naturally present stimulate collagen and elastin production via upregulation of collagen genes and inhibition of MMPs; they also have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. Antimicrobial peptides (e.g., defensin-like molecules) provide mild protection against bacteria. Allantoin soothes, promotes cell turnover, and supports barrier repair. The secretion also contains glycolic acid (mild exfoliation), vitamins, and trace minerals. The combination replicates functions of multiple skincare ingredients—hydration, wound healing, antioxidant defense, and barrier support—in a single biocompatible secretion. Filtrate processing removes snail cells while preserving bioactive compounds.
